StomaphyX Surgical Procedure

Link: http://www.robertorizzi.com/obesity-surgery.htm

StomaphyX is a pioneering new surgical procedure. StomaphyX only became available in the last few months and is pioneered in a few clinics.

The procedure uses a simple scope inserted through the patient’s mouth to re-shrink the stomach pouch. The incision-free surgery, also referred to as “natural orifice surgery,” is a promising development in surgical technique.

StomaphyX is an incision-free alternative to conventional surgery for gastric bypass patients who have regained weight. StomaphyX uses an endoscope inserted through the mouth in order to tighten the small pouch created at the top of the stomach during the first gastric bypass surgery.

Cure Diabetes with Weight Loss

Link: http://www.robertorizzi.com/qualification.htm

Most common treatments for diabetes actually cause more weight gain. Insulin, the primary treatment for diabetes, is known to cause weight gain in diabetic patients, in part because insulin acts on the fat storage cells to block the breakdown and promote more storage of these fats.

Diabetes mellitus is one of the most common and devastating ailments of our time and is usually cured by losing weight. Most of the treatment recommendations for diabetes from our doctors and the pharmaceutical industry mention weight loss as a good idea, but focus mainly on the drugs that are prescribed to bring down the blood sugar.

Effective, medically-supervised weight loss cures diabetes; it does not just treat a number like the blood glucose.

The right medically-supervised program can cut calories, employ meal replacements, offer counseling and behavior tools, utilize appetite suppressing medications, perform weight loss surgery, and plan the transition to a successful maintenance program.

Obesity and Diabetes Type 2 Statistics

Link: http://www.robertorizzi.com/qualification.htm

Nearly 20 million Americans have Type 2 diabetes.

Diabetes is the fifth-leading cause of death in the United States. The death toll from diabetes has grown by nearly 50 percent in the past 20 years.

Obesity is a growing national epidemic. From 1976 to 2004, the percent of adults (age 20 to 74 years in the United States who were obese) more than doubled from 15 to 32.9 percent.

According to JAMA, researchers have found that 73 percent of patients, who underwent a stomach reducing surgical procedure, were cured of Type 2 diabetes when compared to only 13 percent of diabetics that followed other forms of conventional therapy - dieting, weight loss and medication - went into remission.

An estimated three in every four obese people suffering from diabetes can be cured of the disease with bariatric surgery, according to a groundbreaking new study reported in the current edition of the Journal of the American Medical Association.

Metabolic syndrome (MetS) and Obesity

Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a condition characterised by central obesity, hypertension, and disturbed glucose and insulin metabolism. The syndrome has been linked to increased risks of both type 2 diabetes and CVD.

A research done by Takanori Tsuda from Chubu University (Aichi, Japan) and published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry shows that Anthocyanins, an antioxidant pigments from fruit and vegetables, have a "significant potency" against fat cells and therefor could be used for the prevention of weight gain.

The study shows that anthocyanins have a significant potency of antiobesity and has important implications for preventing metabolic syndrome. The study looked at the effects of the anthocyanin cyanidin 3-O-beta-D-glucoside (C3G) in both mice fed a high-fat diet, and on human fat cells incubated with the compound.

The report indicates that mice fed a high-fat diet supplemented with C3G-rich purple corn color (PCC, 0.2 per cent) for 12 weeks had significantly lower body weights than animals fed only the high-fat diet.

Thirty Two per cent of adult Americans are estimated to be affected by MetS. Obesity is established to be the main risk factor for MetS.
